Last race of the season

Today was the last day of scheduled racing for the season and for those who follow these things the wind forecast for the day was getting interesting as we got nearer the day! 50mph gusts manifested themselves in the end and PRO Richard Beach was asking if he should cancel the day’s sailing and leave the volunteers in bed. However, with the lure of bacon and egg rolls being provided in the galley by Julian and some glorious sunshine, there was a good turnout if not to sail, at least to watch those intrepid enough to launch their boats.
We had three lasers, and a wing foiler braving the monster gusts to blast across the broad, capsize (numerous times) and come back with a deserved sense of achievement. Adam Osbourne-Jones went with the full fat laser standard rig while Cliff Haslam decided that a radial rig was a wiser decision. Two intrepid juniors, Charlie Lloyd and Willow Osborne -Jones took turns with a laser 4.7 rig while Chris Haslam went for a balancing act on is new wing foiler. They were all clear winners, and were great entertainment from the much larger group of non sailing sailors on the bank.
We can also announce that Mike Gower won (again) the autumn Sunday series with Bryan Morum coming 2nd and Mark Jones coming third. And Emily Vaughan won the crew’s cup (again).
We look forward to the end of March next year and more racing at Hickling.
