Midsummer Regatta 2026
This year we decided our Summer Regatta should truly be a Midsummer Regatta, taking place before the busy programme of local events begins. As the evening races have always been the most popular part of our regatta, we focused on making the most of the long summer evenings and our beautiful broad.
The three evenings provided a real variety of conditions, from a strong breeze to complete calm, with different courses set to suit each night's racing.
The opening race attracted a varied fleet, including a visiting Half Decker, a Streaker, and a handsome newly designed Windsong, alongside our regular Wayfarers, Solos and Norfolk Punts. Jane Pye and her daughter Megan, returning to their Norfolk Punt after racing their Wayfarer earlier in the season, won the opening race.
The second evening brought blustery conditions and one of the highlights of the regatta, as International Canoe sailors Tom Rivierre and Cliff Haslam battled throughout the race. The lead changed several times before they crossed the finish line after four laps and 54 minutes, separated by just one and a half seconds.
Friday evening was the complete opposite, with almost no wind. Despite a shortened course, only five boats finished before the race was abandoned after 75 minutes. Good humour prevailed on the water, and the regatta ended with a well-earned barbecue enjoyed in glorious midsummer sunshine.
