Junior Sailing
At Hickling Broad Sailing Club CIO, we know that our Juniors are vital to the future of both the club and the sport of sailing.
Sailing is one of the few sports where all ages and genders can compete on equal terms. Youthful energy can sometimes best experience, and lighter sailors can occasionally benefit from conditions. It really is a sport for everyone.
Junior Activities
We offer a variety of activities throughout the year, including:
-
Saturday Training Days sessions during the season (see calendar for events)
-
Tuesday Evening T-Sail Late Spring & Summer
Our programme caters to all levels, from those stepping into a boat for the first time to experienced juniors looking to push their skills further.
Racing Opportunities
Juniors who want to race are always welcome on the start line. When numbers allow, we can add additional junior starts. Sunday afternoons are perfect for trying racing in a lower-pressure environment, helping boost confidence and understanding of the rules. Enthusiastic juniors may also be invited to represent the club at local youth events, such as the Broadland Youth Regatta.
Sailing for Fun
For those less keen on racing, club boats are available so juniors can simply enjoy being on the water and exploring the beautiful environment of Hickling Broad.
RYA Powerboat Training
RYA Powerboat courses are available for juniors, combining classroom learning and practical on-water experience with qualified instructors. Successful participants receive an RYA certificate.
Safety
Safety is a top priority at HBSC. All organised racing and training activities are supported by at least one safety boat. All members are encouraged to wear buoyancy aids, which are mandatory for all under-12s on the club site.
