Can Do Crew (women's sailing) » Can Do Crew (women's sailing)
We would like to support more women in sailing and powerboating at HBSC. We have read the research into why sports can be disproportionately gendered and want to remove as many of these barriers as possible.
Our female RYA instructor led training sessions are aimed at addressing this gap. We have a WhatsApp group 'Can do Crew' so we can interact off the water to give advice and help, prep sessions and build a friendly support network of women who would like to advance in the sport of sailing. In addition, we may have an RYA powerboat instructor along at some of the sessions for any women that hold an RYA Powerboat level 2 qualification and would like to gain more confidence and experience at helming a powerboat, or who would like to know what's involved in taking the level 2 qualification so they can potentially become more involved in the club.
No previous sailing experience necessary, we will adapt the sessions to individuals that have confirmed prior to attendance. The sessions will be relaxed, low pressure informal learning. As we're volunteers, we've committed initially to one a month starting this April 7th. The sessions will run on a Friday 9.30am-12.30pm. Future dates are on the website club calendar.
If you would like to be involved, please message to join our WhatsApp group 07876571014, email training@hicklingbroad.com or call to let us know your attendance in advance of these sessions.
