NSBA Broadland Youth Regatta

The 14h Annual NSBA Broadland Youth regatta was held at Norfolk Broads Yacht club on 1st September.

Seventy Youth from 7 different local Broadland Clubs took part; the entry was split into four separate fleets, Toppers, Optimists, Slow and Fast Handicap who all competed in 4 long races.

All day the sun shined onto Wroxham Broad, with a light and shifty breeze to challenge all competitors

A Strong team of 16 juniors from Hickling Broad Sailing Club were delighted to win the Centenary Salver from arch rivals NBYC, this is the combined results of all competitors in each team. HBSC first ever win and the Icing on the Cake for the Club who was the original hosts of this event.

There was a great turnout of Hickling boats in the Topper fleet. With 8 boats and 4 in the top seven, success was guaranteed. Jordan Rumsby won 3 out of the 4 race’s  and came overall 1st , Gabriel Wrenn had many consistent results in the top 4 of the fleet. Notable results from Bryony Bennett-Lloyd (4th), Aaron Murphy (7th), Alex Slater (8th), Georgia Povall (10th) and Dominic Slater (12th).

There was success in the Fast Handicap fleet, with Jack Sheldrake achieving two seconds, a third and a fifth, to get an overall result of third. Oscar Wrenn and James Thomson in the 420, challenged the shifty conditions and established a consistent mid fleet in all of the races. Other results, Tim Mellor (10th), Cub Llewelyn-Davies (12th) and Emma Slater (14th).

Mathew Bate and Dale Lawson in Splashes achieved brilliant results in the competitive Slow Handicap fleet. Matt ended up 5th with a 3rd and Dale finished with 6th.
